Some Nice Cats and Dogs That Need Homes

Well, Mom went to the shelter again yesterday, just like she does most Wednesdays and also Mondays.  And when she came home, she said it was time for me to write in my blog about some of the poor, homeless dogs and cats, because I haven't done that for a while.

But first I want to tell you some good news, which is that a dog named Dustin got adopted last week.  This was a Really Big Deal at the shelter because Dustin had been there for three years, starting from when he was just a puppy.  Dustin is a yellow lab mix, and he is a little bit like Marley, that dog in the book Marley and Me.  So that's kind of why nobody adopted him, even though he is quite handsome.  It's just that Dustin has a lot of energy and he is very smart, so he needs to be exercised and given lots of interesting stuff to do.  But anyway, like I said, he finally got adopted, so we hope he will be very happy in his new home.

Oh, and also a cat named Peter got adopted who had been at the shelter a long time.  Peter was a cat that Mom used to sponsor and she liked him a lot, so she was happy that he got a home.  Some other cats got adopted recently, too, but they hadn't been around quite as long as Peter had.

Okay, so here are some cats that didn't get adopted yet, and if you are looking for a cat to add to your family, you should adopt one of these.  The first one is named Jersey, and she is 2 years old.  She is very friendly and she loves attention.  She was even on the Pet Telethon, so she is a TV star!

This kitty is named Jeffrey, and he is 5 years old.  He has been at the shelter ever since he was a kitten.  At first he was kind of skinny and sickly, but he got nursed back to health, and now he is a nice, big cat.  Jeffrey is a little shy, but he would be happy in a home with another cat.

Bethany is a very small cat who had a litter of 5 kittens.  All the kittens got adopted, but Bethany is still at the shelter.  She is only a year old.  She's kind of shy, so she needs a quiet home with no kids, but having another cat around would probably make her happy.

This is Ralphie, who is 4 years old.  He's just a mellow, laid-back sort of guy.  He's very handsome with a shiny black coat and gold eyes.

Okay, so that's enough cats!  Now I will tell you about a couple of dogs.  This first one is Toni, and she's a pomeranian.  She is 10 years old or maybe even older.  She only weighs 6 pounds.  Mom played with Toni yesterday and said that Toni is very sweet.  She just likes to sit in your lap and give you adoring looks.  Toni ended up in the shelter because somebody left her outside the door.  On Monday, Toni got spayed and had some dental work done.  She had very bad teeth, so Dr. Michelle ended up taking all Toni's teeth out except for one canine.  Also Toni had to get a haircut because her hair was all matted.  So now she looks like a lion with a mane and a little tuft on her tail.  Anyway, Toni needs a home with no children, and also maybe another small dog who could be her friend.

This last dog is named Claribel, and she is a very pretty, very nice dog.  Claribel is about 7 years old, and she's a calm, mellow sort of girl.  She is probably a chow mix of some kind.  At the shelter, they said she is mixed with border collie, but Mom said she didn't see anything border-collie-ish in Claribel.  Mom thought maybe there was some husky, since Claribel is about the size and shape of a husky.  Personally, I think maybe Claribel is part New Guinea Singing Dog.  At least that's what she kind of looks like to me!
