ADOPT A SENIOR DOG!

It's hard to believe this, but a lot of people think a dog who is 7 years old is a SENIOR dog!  That means I've been a senior for over a year now, which is just crazy, because I don't feel a day over 2.  Or maybe 3.  Except for on cold, rainy days when my knees ache.

But anyway, some dogs really are kind of old and decrepit at age 7, but others are not.  A lot depends on what breed they are and what kind of life they have had and stuff like that.  The main thing to remember is that older dogs need love just as much as younger dogs do.  In fact, they probably need it more.  And what they really, really need is a nice, warm home to live in, where they will have soft beds to sleep on and yummy food to eat and lots of scratches behind the ears.

So now I'm going to tell you about some senior dogs at the Humane Society who are waiting for somebody to adopt them.  Any one of these dogs would make an excellent pet, and guess what!  There is a special deal going on, so the adoption fee for a senior dog is only $50 instead of the usual $130 that you would pay for a younger dog.

This is Andros, and he is 7 years old.  He is a collie/shepherd mix.  His owner died, so that's why he needs a new home, but his owner took very good care of him, so Andros is in good shape.  He gets along well with other dogs, and he has a totally sweet face.

Patricia is between 8 and 10 years old, and she is part shar pei and part shepherd.  The Animal Control people took her away from her owner because her owner wasn't giving her good care, so that's why she needs another home.

Falcon is about 10 years old.  He is an Australian cattle dog/lab mix.  When he first came to the shelter, he had a lot of stuff wrong with him, like kennel cough, dermatitis, heartworms, and some missing teeth.  Also he was really thin.  But now he is lots better!  Falcon is a friendly dog who gets along well with other dogs.

This is Toffee, who is 9 years old.  I think I told you about him before, but he still hasn't been adopted, so I'm telling you about him again.  Toffee used to have to live on a chain in his people's yard, which is not a good way for a dog to live.  He is a mix of golden retriever and chow.  He would probably be best as an only dog.

Roger is a dachshund, and I told you about him before, too.  Roger is 7 years old.  When he first came to the Humane Society, he was kind of thin, but now he's kind of plump.  So I think that means he likes food!  Roger loves people, and he loves to play with toys.  But he's not so keen on other dogs, so he should be the only dog in the house.

And this is Fancy.  I mentioned her one other time when I was talking about akitas, because that's what she is.  Fancy has been at the shelter a long, long time.  She's 9 years old now, but she's a very sweet dog who loves people.  She would be best as the only dog or maybe she'd do okay with a submissive dog.

So those are the nice senior dogs who need homes.  If you know somebody who can adopt one of them, tell that person to hurry over to the Humane Society and do it right away!
