Valentine's Day

Today is Valentine's Day, which is a day when people celebrate their love and friendship and stuff like that.  And since dogs are people's best friends, people should celebrate having dogs, too.  At least that's my opinion.

Anyway, what people do on Valentine's Day is give each other flowers and candy, except you should not give your dog any candy with chocolate in it because chocolate is POISONOUS for dogs, as I have mentioned before.  And dogs don't care too much about flowers, so you don't have to spend a lot of money buying them roses or whatever.  But if you want to get your dog a new toy or some yummy treats, you would probably make your dog very happy.

Another thing people do on Valentine's Day is that they give each other cards.  The U.S. Greeting Card Association says that if you count all the valentines that are sent every year in the whole world, you would have to count to about one billion.  Valentine's Day is the second-most popular day to send cards, and the very most popular day is Christmas.  Mom knows all about valentines and other kinds of greeting cards because she used to work at Hallmark, and she wrote some of the cards herself.

There are people who blame Hallmark for making holidays where you have to send cards, but I think that it is not Hallmark's fault.  People were already sending valentines back in the 19th century in Great Britain, and that was way before Hallmark was invented.  Also in Germany they used to print Valentine postcards and people sent them to each other, also before there was any such thing as Hallmark Cards.

So if you want to send your sweetie a valentine, I think that's a fine idea.  You can even send one to your dog, and your dog might enjoy chewing it up.  Or you could give one to your cat and then roll it up in a ball for the cat to play with.  Also there are e-cards that you can send on the internet.

Anyway, that's about all I have to say about valentines, but here's a little Valentine's Day poem that I wrote for all my nice blog readers:

Don't be silly,
Don't be stupid,
Watch out for
That guy named Cupid!
He might shoot you
With his arrow,
And you'd fall in love
With a sparrow!
