Glam Slam: The First Lady & The Princess - Style Icons

May 24, 2011

Wouldn’t you love to have been a fly on the wall in THAT room? With President Obama and the First Lady meeting The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge? Heck yes!

The men, wearing regal suits, look dapper, of course… but the ladies! It’s impossible to pick who is more chic.

I love Princess Kate’s neutral sheath with cap sleeves, dainty black heels and clutch bag. Kate’s taupe colored “Shola” dress is from one of her favorite British brands Reiss and sells for $340. Reiss’ website crashed earlier today from demand for the dress.

Mrs. Obama is the picture of Spring in her gray floral print Barbara Tfank dress with full skirt paired with a pink satin bolero jacket, which she pinned with a trademark jewel brooch. When it comes to style, these two are yin and yang… Kate keeping with her simple sleek fitted lines and Mrs. Obama working the signature feminine and embellished look she is so well famous for. Nobody does a print like Mrs. O!

The Royal Couple are just back from their 10-day honeymoon in the Seychelles Islands and they looked tan and refreshed. I wonder what they talked about… the honeymoon? The Royal Wedding? Maybe Kate and Mrs. Obama talked all about her gorgeous wedding dress and all that went into keeping it a secret for the big day.

The fashionable foursome met at Buckingham Palace as part of a two-day state trip to the United Kingdom at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth.

It’s been a whirlwind tour featuring many American designers for the First Lady’s appearances. She wore a Peter Som black and white Openwork Lace Sheath from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection to meet with the President of Ireland in Dublin on Monday. The same day, she also wore a Marc Jacobs print dress from the designers Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

But today’s White House/Royalty mash up is what really had fashionistas panting… watching two style icons, toe-to-high heeled toe, in action.
